Absolutely you can be hacked if you have a firewall but no anti-virus software. A firewall only acts as a traffic cop for your network connections. It controls what network connections can come into your computer and which can go out. On the other hand, many viruses and trojan horses come from infected files you download, maliciously-written websites, email and other sources that are usually legitamate. Since the firewall will come configured to allow email, web browsing and ( through the browser at the very least) file downloads, it will not stop them.

Most trojan horses, root kits, key loggers, etc., have gotten smart enough to know that there is likely a firewall to deal with. you probably wouldnt get hacked unless they gave you a trojan horse or some zone alarm downloadtype of back door virus witch you would be very open to with out anti virus or anti spyware an yes it would make it way easier for some one to hack your computer
i would suggest using the atg viruse protection
ZoneAlarm free isn't particularly good and while it may stop direct hacks attempts in, the bad stuff will get on in the form of spyware, which will then let the hackers in. ZA won't stop spyware phoning home.

OnlineArmor and Comodo are free firewalls, both way ahead of ZoneAlarm. Use either.

You'll still need an anti-virus program and an anti-spyare program. Avast is a solid free AV, Malwarebytes' Antimalware and SuperAntiSpyware are very good freebies, too.
