We have this older cat, he's 13yrs old (maybe 14 or 15 but were guessing 13) and we've owned him for 12 years. Anyways, at night sometimes, he'll run around the house and meow really loudly, and yowl (might be the word) and he'll do this until someone yells to tell him to shut up haha. He does this either at 2am or in the middle of the day. He also likes to stare at walls and random objects.
When you say at night, so you mean after you've gone to bed and its dark? At his age, he may be dewhy do cats meow at nightveloping cataracts. If that's the case his night vision may be throwing him off. Possibly try bring him with you when you go to bed and see if that calms him down.

My cat is 16 and she does that ALL the time. She used to be really quiet and shy, but as she grew older, she started howling and meowing reallllly loud out like every hour, and just starts running around the house out of nowhewhy do cats meow at nightre. We also think she's going deaf. But I think its just an aging thing that they go through, kind of like a cat-menopause or something.
I used to have a cat that did that. It turned out he was going blind and he would howl so he could orient himself in a room, much the way blind people will clap and wait for the echo.
